About the
basilica of Bom Jesus:
The basilica of Bom Jesus is
one of the churches most crowned
and most popular in Goa. The
behavior of the relics of the
street Francis Xavier, the saint
of owner of Goa, apostle of
the Indies and for the majority
of Goans of Goencho Saib basilica
of Bom Jesus is one of the oldest
church of Goa. The historical
data indicate that the construction
of the church started in the
year 1594 with the support of
the funds which was left by
the DOM Jeronimos Mascarenhas
and was sanctified by the archbishop
DOM france Aleixo de Menezes,
in the year 1605. Initially
of its kind, the basilica of
Bom Jesus reached the statute
of a minor basilica in the year
1946.
Building of church:
The building of church is a
complete mixture of doric architecture,
Corinthian and made up of model.
There is a Western frontage
on three levels of coating.
Built black laterite stone,
approximately 78 feet of 1/2
top and of 75 3/5 foot of broad
the structure is splendid and
simply brilliant. The frontage
can be classified in four divisions
which are:
* Low having the three elegant
gates
* The part just above having
three large windows which
corresponds the three gates
* The third part above has
three circular windows
* The fourth part forms a
quadrilateral which is richly
decorated.
The pillars and cuttings
decorates all the part of
the structure and has the
complex details as well. The
interior of the basilica of
Bom Jesus is however apparent
for his simplicity remarkable
splendour. The length is approximately
182 4/5 foot, its width 55
feet of 1/2 and its size 61
1/3 foot. There are three
windows on each side the increase
above the other. The body
of the basilica is completely
roomy. The construction of
the basilica finishes each
side in a vault. There is
the blessed sacrament kept
by an enormous vault with
pillars with the left of the
vault. The remainders of the
street Francis Xavier were
maintained in this vault of
1623-1655. There is a principal
furnace bridge which is approximately
54 feet top and 30 1/5 foot
broad and is devoted to infantile
Jesus. Extraordinarily decorated
out of gold, the description
of Jesus infantile in the
arms protected from the street
Ignatius de Loyola, the founder
of the Society of Jesus is
really an astonishing work
of Article the statue of the
street Ignatius is almost
3 meters high. The church
is worth a visit and was one
of popular tourist attractions
in Goa.
